GEORGE FISHER

George Fisher

My work embodies a situated way of working, engaging with local stakeholders and community groups to push forward spatial propositions.

I am passionate about using my skills as an architect to find solutions to the ever-increasing inequality that society is facing today.

I have a DIY approach to life, and this permeates my work: from the networks and relationships I have built up surrounding homelessness in Redbridge, to the homeless sleeping pods I built for a night shelter in Ilford.

I believe that the production of space is highly political, yet the architect’s role in society is largely pre-proscribed. We must adapt and begin to engage with the language of politics both at a local and national scale to push forward spatial propositions.

I enter the professional world with a desire to develop an interdisciplinary practice that breaks away from the typically siloed role of the architect, fostering engagement with other disciplines and the general public.

My work explicitly acknowledges the contribution of others, in an attempt to dismiss the notion of ‘expert authorship’ that the profession still clings to, in order to open up a greater capacity for collaboration and innovation.

I enjoy proposing at a variety of scales, from the strategic overarching vision right down to a hands-on practical level.
